The reasons of becoming a pro
You want to be a poker professional, to sit at your chair at home and enjoy some poker playing while you gain some money out of it on a regular income? No boss, your own time settings and the possibility of getting “work” from everywhere you have a pc and a network connection. Sounds pretty good and like a financial freedom dream.
But poker is not such a easy job as many could think. It’s not a fast and easy way of getting money and sometimes is very stressfully. So if you want to become a poker pro you must really love the game and not just like it, but really love it. Like you are made for this, because actually some people are made for poker but some don’t.
So before even deciding about getting to pro you must start out low, playing low hands or maybe playmoney, to accommodate with the game and the software. Some people say never invest in poker before getting 1 million play money. You must be sure not that you are good at it or not, because you can learn and always improve and become better, but you must be sure if this is what you will love to do for the rest of your life before quitting your daily job.
So take your time into deciding this, try everything you can, read as much as you can about, watch videos from WPT or things like that, just to enter in this world of poker and see how it suits for you and just after you are completely sure about it, starting to become a poker pro.
How do you become a pro?
Well, first you need to know some strategy behind this game. This requires reading, reading and again reading. It’s never enough to read about it. Poker is a mind game so don’t think its easy. It requires proper player readings at the tables, using the positions, bluffing your opponents, not just playing your card. If you just play your cards the others will “read” you quickly and you will end up wasting all of your money. So don’t do that. Your only strategy should be water-shape. That means you need to fit there between the players and shape after their shape, that’s the way to profit and that’s what poker pros do. As Bruce Lee said:” be like water my friend.”
The capital to start
Starting in poker from zero is a possible method but will take so much of time that you will probably abandon and think that is your fault and it’s not maid for you. I don’t swallow to much about that with start as low as you can. Bullshit.
If you ask me, the rich get richer and the poor gets poor. If you start out low you will be very disappointed about how the play at your limit is and how slow your grow will be and in the temptation of trying higher limits, with low bankroll, that means quick failure. So don’t do that.
If you want to start and do something, at least do it big. No fear, no regret. Because with a proper bankroll management if you start out big you will never loose the money.
The bankroll management
It’s an easy one: NEVER buying at a ring game or single table sng with more than 5% of your bankroll and NEVER buying at a multi table tournament with more than 2% than your bankroll. Make this a golden rule for you and your money will be always safe while moving up and down in the limits, according to your needs.
The time you play
Most of the times, poker pros that make a constant stream of money out of poker are making it by playing a very large amount of hands at the time by multi tabling. That requires a proper amount of time invested. Remember that should be a job and like any job it requires at least 8 hours a day to play. But those hours should be at least with 2 thousand of hands if you ask me.
So if you want to do this, take the responsibility big and remember that you must work. So work, work and again work.
Take a break when necessary
If for some reason you loose a big amount of cash and maybe even half of your bankroll don’t despair. When you have this kind of moments that means that you should take a break. It’s like an alarm system. If you feel bad also, it’s a sign that you should consider doing something else for a period.
Do something to relax yourself: drink a beer, watch your favorite tv show, take a walk, spend time with your family. Anything that will relax your mind and will make you let a side for a moment poker. Take the time for your mind to relax and appreciate better what you doing wrong and what you must do to fix. Don’t rush what it shouldn’t be rushed.
In poker, rushing and pushing means failure. Here we talk about a mind game that requires a lot of thinking and patience. The most patient here always win.
If you have a bad moment and lost some money its ok, you are going to take them back but not NOW. Because now you will loose all of them if you continue. Stop for a moment, leave and you will come back a better poker player that I can make you sure.
Discipline yourself.
Either if we talk about the playing hours, the playing hands or the playing strategies you should always have discipline and make yourself rules to follow. Never obey those rules. Rules will keep you alive and on the winning line.
Going on rampage and playing on luck that means failure big time and you don’t want that. You want a safe and secure way of doing it, so even if you started out positively that doesn’t mean you are good at it.
Do it for a year at least with winning and than you can say you are a poker pro. Before this you are a rookie and you are learning.
So if you do it for a year than you can do it your entire life and who knows, maybe you will become among the best at WSOP this year.
Good luck and see you the tables. Cheers
